Description
Since the time when i made the 2nd version of this picture (the one with the flames, from 2012),
all of my friends (and myself included) wanted me to incorporate that effect to the Legend game title
screen and make improvements to it. Some people hinted at Illustrator like vector. But the original
which was made in a classic 256-index palette appeared to the Illustrator algorithms like a UFO.
Direct translation of the 2012 pic to the game also didn't work in more ways than one: there were
issues with geometry, positioning, text space, colors and transparency. Besides, most also wanted
to keep it classic: no plastic, just the old school 256. Whatever i tried ultimately was always only
making things worse.It seemed like the 2012 enhancement and the Legend title screen just weren't
meant to co-exist. For a time, the task appeared out of reach. At least by my own means.
But as the ultimate version of Legend (8.0) was nearing it's completion, the determination to solve
this riddle once and for all was reignited in force. My faithful consultant - the ever-crafty CS4, as always,
offered help. At that time i was working on a different picture: a title screen for yet another Hexen mod, -
(Deathkings Rage); and i was experimenting with some intricate combinations of effects and filters.
Arriving at certain satisfactory results, i decided to try the combos on the old Legend title. It seemed
to work, and after some extras and injections, and the addition of the 2012 flames and some
error hunting and old-school per-pixel edge-work, - there it was:
the result which i can only describe as maximum picture at a minimum resolution!
Classic and enhanced, with all the once-wanted factors in place!
Me and all of my friends were extremely satisfied with this enhanced 2014 title,
and especially the way it looks in the game!
Legend 8.0 has two new title screens and both came out nicely.
Old style, 256-index, with everything tucked in and taken care of neatly.
Now it really does justice to the triumphant mod and the inspiring original game!
